Every year there are more than 50,000 forest fires in Europe. Between 1989 and 1993, only in the Mediterranean from the mainland, 2.6 million hectares of forest were destroyed by fire.
The Natural Park of Arrábida is an area where there are more than 1,000 species of marine animals and plants. The entire territory is classified as "Site of Special Interest to Nature Conservation-CORINE Biotope ", contains the "Site of Community Importance "Arrábida - Espichel" and a Special Protection Area (SPA) for the Birds "Cabo Espichel", both integrated in the Natura 2000 Network. Several animals endangered and protected species, are present.
Was proposed for inclusion in Indicative List of World Heritage and proposal the World Heritage, in 2011.
If fires makes Arrábida disappear, what we lost?
